I am a woman of words. I love words; everything they embody and every emotion they evoke. Since I was young I have had a passion for quotations. Even as a middle-schooler I spent hours paging through books and noting different passages I found humorous or profound.
As I grew older, I brought my love of words to the workplace. I have drafted press releases, edited web content, defined clients' key messages, analyzed strategic initiatives, and more.
So how do words help define who I am and what I desire in terms of career success?
Henry David Thoreau once said, "If one advances confidently in the direction of one's dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, one will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
A dream of mine has always been to work in a field that allows me to pursue my love of words and encourages, if not requires, a passion for writing and an imaginative mind. In addition, I want to work for a company . . .
- that positively challenges me to supersede my own expectations of my abilities.
- where passion is a driving force in the work that is produced throughout the organization.
- where growth isn't a phase, it's a constant, and where opportunities for advancement abound.
- that puts the individual (customer and employee) first.
- that rewards personal accomplishment and encourages innovation.
I don't believe these are unrealistic expectations. Rather, per Thoreau's sage advise, I define career success by my ability to hold a position in a company where these wants and dreams are nothing short of reality.
